Tips for Packing for Family Holiday Trips

The holidays are a great time for traveling with loved ones. It offers bonding time and a chance to see family that you haven’t seen all year long due to distance. Building memories is done over holiday breaks before the kids go back to school, and this is something that parents and children look forward to all year long. While some families go to another city or state, others may travel across the world to different countries. Regardless of where you’re holiday traveling plans take you, having the right equipment packed will be essential.

However, carrying huge suitcases may not be the ideal way to spend your trip, and this is because not only do they weigh a ton, but chances are you won’t need half of the things you’re packing. Packing light is the way to go, but for some this seems almost impossible. Women in particular need an outfit for every occasion and event that might be taking place. That being said, here are some tips to helping you pack light this holiday season or whenever you may be traveling.

Packing for Family Holiday Trips

Where is Your Trip Taking You?

You first need to determine where your trip is going to take you. Are you going somewhere where the weather is mild or chilly? This can say a lot about the clothing and shoes to pack. During the winter, people typically want to spend holidays in warmer climates, while some do prefer being with family in colder areas. If you’re going to be in places and partaking in activities such as snowboarding, rather than taking your own equipment and gear, consider renting it when you arrive.

Plan Your Outfits

Consider planning ahead what you are going to wear. If you are going to be in warmer climates, skip the heavy jackets and consider a light jacket in case it does get chilly at night. If you have an extended trip planned, consider washing the clothes that you do take so you don’t have a heavy load. Stick with clothing that you can mix and match accessories rather than taking your entire jewelry box ladies.

The most important thing to do is prioritize. While you’re going to want to look your best, consider what you need to take as opposed to what might be considered something that could be left behind. Rather than taking 10 different pair of shoes, take a few  that can be worn with multiple outfits.
